Rules and Code of Conduct

The Scout Law and Promise should cover the expected behaviours of all our members, after all you take the promise when you are invested.  But to make some things crystal to all our members we outline a Code of Conduct below:-

Explorer Code of Conduct
In order to provide a positive, safe, and fun environment for all to enjoy Explorer Scouts follow the Law, Promise and Motto.  These form the foundation for all the following rules and should be the basis for all of your actions:-

You must do your best to be on time and wearing the appropriate uniform for all unit events.

You should be considerate, courteous, and respectful towards other Explorers and Leaders.

You should listen to all instruction given to you by your leaders and not talk over them when they are trying to address the unit.

You must not use or possess any alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs.  If found or detected, parents (and/or statutory authorities, if necessary) will be notified immediately in order to collect you from any meeting or camp.

You will take responsibility for any property owned by Explorers, Scouting (or any other individual) that you damage.

We do not allow Explorers to share a tent or bunkhouse room with someone of the opposite sex.  The only exception to this is when an expedition or accommodation will not permit normal separation, in which case there are always more than 2 people in the same room/tent.

Explorers is not an opportunity for drape yourself all over members of the opposite sex. That's not respectful or fair for others in the meetingplace. Please keep that to your own time, everyone else is there to enjoy Scouting.
The use of profanity or abusive language will not be tolerated

Discrimination of any kind on the grounds of race, sex, religion or ability will not be tolerated.

Yellow and Red Cards
We use a system of Yellow & Red Card warnings that will be issued for actions that in the view of a Leader are considered either inappropriate behaviour or serious misconduct.  A Red Card will result in a two-week suspension from all District Explorer activity - thereby parents would be notified.

Any continued behavioural issues would also result in the leaders discussing the issue with parents, in order to look for a successful resolution to the problem.  This could include sanctions up to and including an Explorer being asked to leave the unit.

Our Anti-Bullying Code

We DO have respect for everyone as individuals, whatever their differences.

We DO take bullying seriously - and it's never 'just a bit of fun'.

We DON'T accept any bullying behaviour, name-calling, physical violence or threats, being left out, spreading nasty rumours either in person or by text/email, hiding their belongings or any other way of making someone feel bad.

We DO report any bullying we see, whoever it's aimed at.  It should be reported to a Leader or someone else trusted such as our team leader

We DO take someone seriously if they tell us they're being bullied and we don't watch others being bullied without doing something

We DON'T just put up with bullying

We DO make sure something is done about it
